Current Known Hardware Issues
After approximately 15 years of service, our Davis Vantage Pro weather station has failed. I suspect a power system issue. Attempts to repair this locally have met with unreliable results. Due to this fact, I are now temporarily using a WeatherFlow Smart Weather station for website data until I can secure a Davis Vantage Pro 2, hopefully in the near future.

In reference to the above post, I am happy to announce I have finally purchased a replacment Davis weather station. WeatherTrek now has a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus with UV and Solar Senors! The station is currently setup in a temporary configuration. Unfortunatley, this temporary location is not optimal for accurate wind readings. The good news is everything else should be fairly accurate. I hope to have a more permanent installation figured out sometime third quarter 2020. As time permits I will be working this station into the website in the form of a new page.

Current Known Weather Data Issues
From late January until early March, I had a web hosting issue. The website was fully visible, but I was unable to upload any weather data. This was resolved on March 5, 2020. I are now in the process of repairing and updating the website. While most of the current weatherdata is available, there are several holes in previous data that will require some attention. At this point, I are unsure if the data can or will be repaired. However, I are making every effort to ensure the primary weather data going forward will be available and up-to-date.

Current Known Networking Issues
For approximately 6 days (starting June 13) I was experiencing issues connecting to the website both to view and also when attempting to upload weather data. It turns out that the issue was only with my internet provider. For reasons unknown, Spectrum blacklisted the website IP address. I am sure they had their reasons, and being that WeatherTrek is on a shared IP address, it could have been one of the other sites. Anyway, I filed a complaint and a couple of days later the restrictions seem to have been lifted. I am happy we are back in service, and I am taking steps to hopefully reduce the chances of this ocurring in the future. We will just have to wait and see.

Current Known Software Issues
Approximately a month ago, for reasons unknown, the included FTP client in Weather Display started crashing after three days of operation (give or take a couple of hours.) I had two registered instances of Weather Display running on the same computer (which was supposed to work fine, and did for a while), but it was became unstable resulting in the included FTP client crashing itself or the primary software. After several attempts to resolve, I have finally given up, and placed the second instance of Weather Display onto a second computer. As I had plans to evenually migrate the website to a different host, I have taken this opportunity do begin that process as well. Hopefully these two actions will result in a much more stable enviroment.

Overall Site Status September 2023
After almost exactly three years of not touching this, I have found myself back again. And I have finally come to the conclusion that this website has outlived its usefulness. When this site was conceived about 20 years ago, there were no smart phones, no apps, only the internet and websites to convey information. Technology sure have changed! At the time, it was an interesting hobby and educational experience. Now, just about every local TV station has their own app, which easily puts the local weather conditions at ones fingertips. And I now have an app on my phone (Davis WeaterLink) that provides my personal weather data with the push of an icon... no typing in a web page URL in my browser. And I have changed also. While I am still interested in the weather in my back yard, I do not see the efficiency in hours of website design when I can just can click an app and get the info real-time. Simply put, I have other hobbies from which I receive more enjoyment. Keeping the weather software and dedicated PC running has become work instead of fun.
So, I am announcing that this website is offically going on the back shelf (where, honestly, it has been collecting dust for a couple of years anyway.) I may dust it off in the future... only time will tell. For those that do stumble by, I will attempt to put a future link somewhere on this website to my Davis WeatherLink data, which will give you a small glimpse into the weather in the back yard. Hopefully I will find time, and more importanly, the desire, to do so soon. Until then, please be advised that the data found here is more than likely stale, and NOT USABLE FOR ANY PURPOSE at all beyond recreational reading. If you have any need for accurate weather data, this is no longer the site where you will find it. It hurts to say it, but just being honest. And, just perhaps, that last sentence will be the smoldering ember that will bring me back to WeatherTrek in the future!
